This weekend you can take a few practice swings then set your shoulders and eye the next pin at Nottingham’s biggest 18-hole opportunity outside the Wollaton Park and Bulwell golf clubs.

But you can leave your woods and irons at home. A supplied putter is all you will need at Highfields Park Adventure Golf, the newly-landscaped pitch-and-putt challenge whose opening this weekend marks the latest stage of the upgrade of the popular park.

European Golf in Cottingham tees off with UK first…

Golf PuttingEuropean Golf in Cottingham is creating the country’s first full-sized golf course covered entirely with artificial grass.

Using specialist synthetic ‘grass’ handpicked and imported from Arizona, the nine-hole course is being painstakingly laid to ensure it offers the same consistent ball speed and ‘true roll’ expected of ‘real’ grass, as well as being able to withstand any conditions the British weather can throw at it.

Company founder David Lowe said though the deal was unique, he believed it could open the door for similar contracts at sites across the UK.Putting artificial golf course

European Golf offer perfect pitch for Scottsdale putters

European Golf has been selected by club manufacturer Scottsdale Golf to provide a putting green. It will be used for prospective buyers to ‘try before they buy’.

The 6m x 6m synthetic green will be located in the heart of Canary Wharf in London.

A road has been closed off and will remain closed while the show site’s turf is in place, to ensure maximum realism for the practising putters.

The base for the square green will be made from timber pre-made before the installation begins on 11 July. The ultra-realistic contours and undulations – which allow club buyers to test their potential purchases in a realistic environment – have been created using rubber underlay.

The green will therefore benefit from a variation of putts, giving the best possible customer experience.

European Golf managing director Josh Bartlett said: “We’re using our premium synthetic turf, the Nylon Tour Putt Ultimate, on this green.

“It will be surrounded by a 50cm border fringe to give it a ‘first cut’ look that adds an extremely realistic effect to the green.

“We’re delighted to be working with Scottsdale to offer the perfect testing ground for their putters,” he added.

The Lowe down on European Golf

Scott Mac Callum catches-up with European Golf partner, David Lowe, to discuss the increased use of synthetic surfaces at home, on the course and in adventure golf.

There can be little doubt that our weather has become more extreme in recent years and golfers have had to become used to finding something else to do with their weekends, as their golf clubs have struggled to keep their courses playable in the face of record rainfall and unfeasible high water tables.

New Adventure Golf Course In London

Ahoy there! European Tour pro Richard Finch to appear at opening of new nine-hole adventure golf course in London

European Tour pro Richard Finch will be guiding putters through choppy waters when he appears at the opening of a brand new nine-hole adventure golf course in London over the 2016 Easter weekend.

Finch will be the guest of honour over the opening weekend of Captain’s Bay Adventure Golf, which is based at Metro Golf Centre in Barnet.

Crazy golf fans are encouraged to come along and see Finch in action on the course – which features fast-flowing water holes and a 20ft long shark prop – on Saturday 26th March between 12noon and 2pm.

If you can’t wait that long to test your skill on the mini-golf equivalent of the high seas, the course officially opens at 10.30am on the day before [Good Friday].

The course is the brainchild of Josh Bartlett and David Lowe, who own artificial grass specialists Showcase Greens Adventure Golf Limited.

Its concept arose when Showcase Greens completed some work on the driving range at the Metro Golf Centre.

Josh saw that the centre benefited from the extremely busy range, with more than 6,000,000 balls hit per year, and that it was also a very community- and family-orientated hub.

The seeds of the idea had been sown, so Josh and David went to work on designing the course with the same flair they had shown when they designed greens for Centre Parcs.

The pair designed the course themselves and completed it in collaboration with landscape architects the Andrew Davies Partnership, using Showcase Greens’ bespoke Tour Putt Ultimate putting green grass that they developed in collaboration with their company’s preferred supplier LazyLawn.

Construction of the course took three months in the Winter of 2016.

“We specialise in installing artificial golf greens like Captain’s Bay and we have extensive experience in combining different turf types to create courses that look realistic,” said Lowe.

“Thanks to LazyLawn, the Captain’s Bay course that we’ve delivered has an authentic and realistic playing experience which is low maintenance, durable and weather-proof.

“The result is a nine-hole course that is fun for all the family and will give every type of golfer an enjoyable and amazing experience!” he added.
